Event Description | The course is for Stroud Association Schools only. Do all your children have the depth of understanding in Maths to be able to work independently and transfer skills to all areas? One of the key areas of focus from the EEF (Metacognition and Self-regulation) is to 'Encourage pupils to take responsibility for, and play an active role in, their own learning’. The recent DfE document (Mathematics Guidance: Key stage 1 and 2) refer to children being ‘ready to progress’. This document exemplifies the priority learning children need before they are ready to move on to concepts in the year above. Therefore suggesting that the conceptual understanding of these is crucial to further success in mathematics. Developing mastery in maths requires children to have a deep conceptual understanding. This four session course will explore conceptual understanding of number and how manipulatives play a key part in this process. There will also be some time to examine how to improve outcomes by exploring children’s mind-set, as well as how to develop resilience and independence. Delegates will become more skilled and confident in challenging children’s understanding and support them to develop deeper mathematical concepts in the classroom. The gap tasks will enable delegates to apply key approaches back in their own classrooms to developing deep understanding and independence for all pupils. During the first session delegates will explore how developing and changing mind-set can help to promote independent, resilient learners and as a result improve outcomes for mathematics. Strategies to improve mind- set in mathematics will be explored. This session will also look at the importance of early number as a foundation from basic counting into place value and number sense all are vital if pupils are able to progress. During the second session delegates will explore additive reasoning and how to buld this from EYFS to Year 6. The session will look at the main building components and how to support pupils to apply this to other aspects of maths and use it to apply, porblme solve and reason. In the third sesion delegates will explore multiplicative reasoning and how to buld this from EYFS to Year 6.The session will look at the main building components and how to support pupils to apply this to other aspects of maths and use it to apply, porblme solve and reason. Delegates will be contacted three days before the session with details of how to access the online training, which will be sent via a link to the email address on your CPD Online account. Please ensure that the email address you have registered with is correct. If it needs changing this can be done via your CPD Online account or please contact the Training Admin Team on 01454 863183. Only the actual delegate booked onto the course will be able to participate and must announce themselves by confirming their name and school in the group chat. |
