Maths: Planning for long term learning in maths: get the balance right between new learning and rehearsal

In the latest Ofsted maths subject report, Coordinating mathematical success, published in July 2023, the phrase ‘coordinating mathematical success’ describes how effective schools make sure that curriculum plans, teaching approaches, pupil tasks, assessments, and mechanisms for evolving these align well. When successful, each individual element is of high quality, and the elements work in harmony, together supporting pupils to learn effectively. It means setting out a path to proficiency in the subject, checking pupils are on that path and helping them to stay on that path.

This is a 1 session course

These surgeries provide an opportunity for teachers to discuss any pupils they would like support to assess. Teachers can bring along children's writing evidence and work alongside the LA moderator, who will provide advice and guidance about assessment and next steps in learning, as well as anything else that may be useful (such as planning ideas, text recommendations etc.)


Each session is on a 1:1 basis so only one person per school should book. Schools may send a second Year 6/Year 2 teacher at no extra cost - please just add the name of any extra delegate into the booking require ...
