This course will support all Year 6 teachers in developing their subject knowledge and expertise in relation to supporting pupils to reach age-related expectations in reading. The session will explore the key skills needed to reach the expected standard and strategies for teaching reading effectively, as well as considering learning from previous reading SATs papers.

This two hour course is aimed at NQTs and RQTs who wish to develop and strengthen their current practice. Reading features throughout the new Ofsted Framework yet many teachers are unsure about how to discretely teach the skills which are required to be a secure reader. Therefore, this course provides delegates with the opportunity to explore a range of strategies to support the teaching of comprehension. The mentor role is a crucial one for the teaching profession and supporting new teachers is a rewarding activity. Supporting NQTs to improve their teaching requires observation and evaluative feedback. This is not the only way that NQT monitoring can take place.
