This briefing is being run early in the academic year in an attempt to support Headteachers in making appropriate provision for moderation in 2017-2018. Advisers will share feedback from the 2017 process, highlight the possible implications and action points arising from this and discuss the various support that is available.

General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) come into force on 25 May 2018 introducing new rules regarding Data Protection of personal data and fines of up to £2m for Schools and Town & Parish Councils who do not comply. This is an essential introduction to GDPR so that you understand the changes in legislation and what actions you need to consider to ensure you are prepared for the change.

The half-day course is aimed at school Governors, Headteachers and Deputy heads. The main areas covered are:

• Legal duties of the school management and governance, the LEA and staff.
• Essential health & safety risk management requirements.
• Setting health & safety priorities - Risk profiling and priority areas.
• Reactive and pro-active measures.
• How to be safe without 'wrapping them in cotton wool'.

This training session will focus on how to plan a sequence of lessons for narrative, non-fiction and poetry. Colleagues will be able to apply the sequence to all subsequent units of work across the academic year. Colleagues will also be able to develop a try/use/prove approach to planning. This will support the assessment of writing and build a robust evidence base.
