This half day course will support Year 2 teachers in developing their subject knowledge of the writing curriculum, with a focus on both grammar and composition. It will consider key elements of the writing curriculum; what constitutes an effective teaching sequence; how to ensure the provision of appropriate opportunities for writing and the assessment framework. Word problems are one of the many applications children can use to problem solve and reason about their Mathematics; forming two of the three main aims of the National Curriculum.

There have been many recent articles looking at alternative, more effective approaches to RUCSAC. At the same time we have seen much written about the ‘Word Gap’ (Alex Quigley) and how early attention to vocabulary acquisition can support strong foundations across the Curriculum. Children require an understanding of 95% of a word problem to enable them to successfully attempt a question*.

This 2 part course takes a look at sensory needs in autism. It is appropriate for any colleague who is interested in autism.

In part 1 we will learn about the eight senses and begin to analyse sensory needs using a questionnaire.

In Part 2 we will return to discuss the questionnaires that you have used to analyse pupil needs and discuss how to develop sensory strategies.

This course is suitable for colleagues working with children and young people aged 5 – 25.
